The region around Dresden offers a wide variety of outdoor activities within a relatively compact area. Weather conditions in the region can change more quickly than the short distance from Dresden might suggest. Morning fog can remain in the valleys while higher ridges are already in the sunshine. Headwinds on exposed sections can significantly increase physical effort, while in autumn, early darkness can limit the practical length of a tour.
The relevance of individual weather conditions also depends on the activity. Visibility and daylight are particularly important for hiking, wind can become a major factor for cycling, and trail running is strongly affected by ground conditions, especially on descents.
