The Liberec Region in northern Czechia connects the Lusatian Mountains, Jizera Mountains and the foothills of the Krkonoše with a varied landscape of forests, mountains and valleys. Its location close to Saxony and Poland makes the region an important part of the cross-border outdoor area.
The Lusatian Mountains and Jizera Mountains offer numerous opportunities for hiking and trail running. Forested highlands, longer climbs, rocky sections and extensive ridge routes create varied conditions for outdoor activities. Quiet secondary roads, forest tracks and longer climbs in the higher areas are also well suited to MTB, gravel and road cycling.
Weather conditions can change noticeably with elevation and over short distances. Fog can occur in valleys while higher ridges may already be sunny or exposed to stronger winds. On longer tours, daylight, temperature and estimated arrival times can also become important factors.
